If you ever

Look at one of those "druggie" sites you will see people using it . It stands for someone I met. It just sounds shady to me.

swim

Also, and this is just what i think,on those sites if someone mentions "swim" 9 out of 10 times they are reffering to themselves and this is a ploy as to not implicate themselves.

we should probably get off of the whole "swim"topic now..i dont want any threads to get locked and i sure dont wanna get in trouble!! lolEmbarassed

Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation of the 'water motion', lol. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't know what it meant until now because that implies I don't visit the druggie sites unless by accident? I did have all kinds of things running through my head like Singing With Intense Meaning......Tongue out I have learned my first factoid for the day!

Me too, I was reading the BFs site one day and I ask him 'why are all of those people saying SWIM and what does that mean'? This was yrs ago and the letters were out of context, leaving me feeling confused. He told me then that it was a way to not implicate anyone, whether it was them or not was obviously not part of the topic nor was it anyones business and that it made some people feel more comfortable about telling their story or situation. I never used it (that I recall), but I understand peoples need or desire for privacy and acronyms are all part of the www, texting, e-mailing, online world.

Nowdays you can be investigated and may not get hired at a new job only because the new boss assumed something, read more into a comment, or numerous reasons of which may be totally innocent.

SWIM

It's sort of like when people used to say, "I have this friend who has this problem...", and everyone knew it was themselves they were talking about.  I guess by using SWIM it takes the person even further away from the topic of discussion.
