i am two pill away from being out of my opioid medication. My next appointment with pain management doctor is on thursday. i am so afraid of going through withdrawals. i had a lot of pain this month and i have never ran out of meds i always have some left over. There is also the possibility my teenager some how got to them even though i am careful to lock them up. I almost feel like going to the hospital for help and then trying to get off of opioid until they can figure out exactly what is wrong with me. on the 8 day of august i will be having biopsy's of my uterus done. i am sorry if my spelling is off.my question is should i go to the emergency room it is Saturday and i do not want my kids to see me in withdrawals.

More info please . . .

This might not be as bad as it seems mel. Would you give us your medication's name and your regular dosage amount please? Going to the ER is an option but a bad one. Besides cost, there are red flags to consider. Things like this are sometimes better handled at home. I will keep ann eye on the board to see your next post, OK?    Q

Re:

I would have contacted my dr when I saw a few tabs left and appt far off...
Maybe call your dr Monday morning and explain.

Is this an emergency ? I wouldn't try the er.

If needed I see my pain management dr 2 or 3 times in a month...you need to communicate more if you are having issues.....good luck

more info

I take 75 to 100 mg of Roxi condone and my doctor said i could not come in early no exception. i tried to ration them out after that call and  started to feel sick.i thought about trying to get through till my appointment by taking Xanax and ambian at night or to try to help me rest through it. just from going about 18 hrs i caved in and i had to take the medicine.

I wanted to hold on to a few for my appointment cause i get tested to make sure my medicine is in there. I know now i am physically dependent and it scares me to know what i will go through.

Thomas recipe

mel,

You might want to look up the "Thomas recipe" on the internet.  It is a treatment for opioid withdrawal.  If you have access to the benzodiazepine, then it might get you through the rough times.  It's worth a try.

But, you do need to speak with your pain management physician at you next appointment, and explain your change in management (either due to tolerance or a worsening of your condition), so that you do not run out again.

Good luck.

Going just fine . . .

It looks like you've got it under control. It's awful to realize that you are physically dependent isn't it. That's why I always take less than I am allowed so that I can have SOME degree of control over the drug. I hope that you come to this conclusion after this is all over. Congrats on your estimable willpower . . . Q

Hi Mel!Do be careful with

Hi Mel!

Do be careful with taking Ambien during the day.  It's kind of a wierdo type of drug.  Though it works similar to regulary benzos (Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc.) it's classified differently as a Sedative/Hypnotic. This is the reason I and many others cannot remember anything about 30 minutes after taking it to sleep.  For that reason, I worry about someone taking it during the day because I very much doubt you're getting the full 7-8 hours of sleep thats really needed to eliminate the drug from your bloodstream.  Mix that with a Benzo, and another agent or so (even OTC) and you start getting into problems.  We've all heard of the stories of people driving, cooking, or to lesser harm, making phone calls. (I'm guilty of ambien calling- why I stopped taking it)

I would see if you can take a little more xanax rather than ambien.  No judgement here, just don't want you to have a tougher time than you do already while going through W/D.

As said by my friend Q; It certainly is disappointing to know you're dependant.  I had to man up until this morning here as well.  Since I recently moved to another state, it was necessary to find another doctor.  I thought I would have been okay, I wasn't totally out last week when I needed a refill and since my SC doctor wrote me three months of meds I waited until the weekend to go to the pharmacy. The issue is Virginia wouldnt' fill the RX's out of state, not until they at least spoke with my doctor.  Which is fine, but he wasn't back from vacation until this morning.  Sunday- Tuesday I really needed Immodium, not great sleep especially since I was in a new place, nervous about a new job, and in pain because of going from Every 4-6 hours to Once Daily.

W/Ds . . .

Hiya Cartier,

I guess that since your former job was as a highly skilled PA-C you didn't have too many chances to run short, huh? Was this your first W/D? My first was not because of running short or any other of that class. What I did was purposefully stop my meds, I was Rx'ed Oxycontin 40mg #3 p/d and Oxycodone 30mg #4 p/d for BTP. That had been going on for 6 months and it took just 48 hrs to get the restless legs and the anxiety reaction. I kept this up for a full week and then they stopped. Masochistic? Maybe, but at least it prepped me for the future possibilities, KWIM?

Hiya Mel,

Good on ya girl. I knew you would make it through ok. . . Q
