Hello Pharmers, I know its been a long tiime since i posted.I missed all of you, but due to some problems I havn't been on much lately. I know I need medical advice, but as this just occured at 5am on a sunday, i cant get to a dr. I'm hoping someone here has some ideas before I have to walk up 2 flights of stairs for Sunday schoool.

Ok, so I have a UTI i just started taking antibiotics for last night. As you may know, when you have to go with a UTI, you have to go NOW. So at 5am, I got up out of bed to go to the little girls room, and my knee promptly gave out! I fell. I pulled myselft up,and fell again. I must have fell 5 times before I made it to the door of my room;the last fall my toes bent backwards and I hit my tailbone. This last fall is what woke my husband, who promply picked me up and literally and embarrassingly carried me to the bathroom. My pride forced me to kick him out at that point, then he had to half carry me back to bed as my knee kept giving out. Its like my right leg isnt getting the message from my brain. Like I tell my left leg to put itself on the chair, no problem. But tell my right leg the same, and nothing happens except excruciating pain and it lifting perhaps 3 inches off the ground.

This only happened once before, a few years back, after an ESI in my back "hit a nerve". But at least I could walk then, I just had to drag the same right leg behind me for 3 days, and that was the end of needles in my back.

I am scared this is permanent, that I'll need a walker at 30. What would cause a knee to just give out? What would cause my left leg to obey my brains commands, while my right leg does not? I have to move it myself with my hands to lift it up.And the pain is excruciating, I mean I was balling and I'm used to pain, KWIM?

Now Im exhausted for waking in pain and actually needing a pain pill at 5am means I cant take one before  church now.

Any ideas, anyone? On what would cause this and what I can do about it?

BTW, when I went to bed I was fine. Just woke up and my leg still doesnt work, and it's not like  its still asleep, it's been and hour and 45 minutes, and I still dont trust myself to walk without falling down. And we leave for church at 8:30.

Just got up for my coffee and knee "tried" to give out, but I held on to the fridge and counter and at least didnt fall, so maybe its improving, BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD CAUSE THIS???

Thanks for the advice in advance, I sure missed you all.

Sorry Melinda, but I think

Sorry Melinda, but I think you need to be seeing a doctor NOW...those symptoms are serious and it sounds neurological in nature.  Please get checked out ASAP!

update

I continued falling yesterday, and due to so much pain from falling, overusing my left leg trying to hold my right leg up,and the upper body pain FROM USING A CANE/CRUTCH THING(who knew how painful that was?? I sure didnt. MUCH respect to those who must use a cane or wheel chair,it takes tremendous strenth!!!), I"ve over used my pain meds and so will run out early if I cant cut WAY back.

Anyway, Ive already had my leg give out on me 6 times and its only 8:45am! I've called my Dr. and he's agreed to see me at 2:45pm. Should I tell him due to increased, HORRIBLE pain, that I've had to take 2 pills every 4 hours vs the 1 every 6 hours I am supposed to take? Should I ask for something stronger temporararily, for like a week, til this is sorted out, or perhaps some tramadol to add to my lortab? I need some advice guys, and I greatly appreciate the advice given so far.

I must admit, I am very scared. Scared this is permanent, scared this is serious. I woke up more sore than I've ever been in my life ALL OVER my body. I'm worried, yesterday my husband was here to help me walk, today no one is. My left leg i can be sitting down and lift all the way up;my right leg only a few inches off the ground. To cross my left leg over my right, I have to manually grab it and cross it over.

I'm going to the Dr, but has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on what it could be? Lord I'm scared. And whats really embarrassing is this will be the 1st time in my life i hav'ne showered before a Dr.'s appt, simply because I'm afraid to fall in the shower and reaally get hurt.

Any answers to my questions/advice is much appreciated. Wish me luck pharmers!

P.S.Goat, I can feel my leg;it just gives out and wont follow my brains commands.

dr update-nada dadgum thing

The nurse asked about my meds. Lamactil,respirdal,prozac,xanax.,lortab,gabapentin....think thats it. Dr came in, lifted my leg (which hurt), asked if Id injured my knee. NO. I WOKE UP AND COULDNT WALK.PERIOD. He says wait a week, if not better call orthopedics guy??? Um, the problem IS NOT MY KNEE. Its the fact that my leg isnt listening to my brain!!!! Im furious, scared, upset, very mistrustful of my dr. He says he cant order MRI???

Anyone from OK with SoonerCare here? Can I call neuro myself? Goat, what did you find out about your leg? mabe same problem as mine? As my Dr appears to want to do NOTHING. This sound right to anyone?

Sounds

Like a normal response.
If it is nerve irritation it might resolve itself in a few days...
I have AArachnoiditis...it acts up at strange times..mostly it's my left leg that has a problem...unless I sleep wrong....here's hoping it goes away...

I have woke up with bells palsy...I knew what it was, but others might think it a stroke...it went away with time also

yes

Adhesive arachnoiditis is like a spider web of scar tissue surrounding the spinal cord and or nerves nearby...either from epidurals or surgeries...it causes nerve compression.  Bells palsy is where half the face is paralyzed..due to irritation of a facial nerve.
I have had extensive surgery on my right arm also due to median nerve compression and ulnar nerve was moved under my muscle ... i say give it a few days and i hope it heals

Melinda, my friend...........

How is your leg? Strange, my [right] leg gave out three weeks ago yesterday. Actually it was on a Tuesday, and it was numb, I had zero feeling in it. But mine was asleep and I simply didn't realize it until after my spill. My knee still has a pretty big lump on it and the pain goes down to my ankle.. but this was caused by the fall itself. No bruising at all which I still find weird, because I took a bad fall & even still have the big lump. Admittedly my [same] leg swells up a lot from the ankle on up the shin and the edema in that leg can get scary bad. But this started before the fall, not after.

Anyway, nothing at all like your symtoms-lol, but just thought I would share.

Really Melinda.. don't you think it's time that you seek out a new Dr.? Wink

I miss chatting with you and I really hope you are doing better by now. I apologize that it took me this long to recognize your post. Many prayers........ Smile
