Can someone explain what a "sticky thread" is?  Also, why some topics get locked, etc?  I am still fairly new and sometimes unsure of what I write and what the above actions meen. Thanks for the help!

Explanations

A "sticky thread" is a topic that stays at the top of the index.

Normally when someone responds to a thread (either recent or ancient), the thread comes to the top of the index.  A "sticky thread" stays at the top.  The only thread(s) that can 'top' one "sticky thread" is another more recent "sticky thread".

Hope that makes sense!Undecided

Often a thread gets locked when the comments get out of hand.  We don't delete the entire thread if there is something in the thread worthwhile learning but we don't want additional comments.  If the thread is useless, we unpublish it instead of locking it.

We also lock threads when the thread is old and members start replying.  If nothing relevant is added, why continue the conversation?

The thread would not be locked if there is an unsolved pill ID and someone posts 5 years laters with the pill identification.  That's relevant.

Just depends on the thread and comments - we use our judgment on how to handle the thread.

Last night I was trying to clean things up.  The problems started when I moved topics from "New Medicines" to "Discussion of OTC and RX Meds" etc.  Unfortunately all these changes show up in the "Recent Posts" section even though most posts are old.  All I did was change category.  But, in the process, the old threads become 'recent' and people start commenting without realizing some threads are years old.

My cleaning spree caused a lot of confusion.  Sorry.Embarassed

i didn't notice the changes

I just always wondered what they meant.  That makes total sense now.  Even I  have responded to a thread and suddenly realized it was 2 years old! Thanks for the info :-)

I am not sure about the stickey threads, but when a topic or thread is not replied upon for a long time then the admin thinks it right to lock it away. You can SPAM LINK for more information.
