I was seeing my primary care doc for about a year now. He was nice and everything was going well. I was not aware of all the rules around pain management and pain prescriptions. So yesterday my doctor cut me off as his patient and of my pain meds also because another doctor prescribed me subutex. What happend was a lost my prescription and was told to go to the suboxon clinic just to get some until I could refill my pain medicine. Which was bad advice from a lady. So my doctor saw that I had another prescription and cut me off. I have no pain contract with the original primary doc but he saw it as I was doctor shopping. Which I didn't even know was a thing nor was I trying to doctor shop. What should I do to find a new doctor? Is it going to be a big struggle trying to continue my pain management meds?

Trouble ahead. for sure.

If you are using a months worth of meds in a couple weeks then dr shop for subs...red flag goes up...u are either misusing or diverting meds.

Not a good start...

For Royalmisfit -

I'm sorry but I'd be lying if I said everything was going to be OK.  Good PM doesn't just happen....I'm afraid that your pattern of use may be a big problem.  Be scrupulously honest my friend - I wish you well.

Honest mistake

I wish to adress this subject.I do (and try to do things differently)sometimes use my Rxs faster by God knows how.I however whould not go to a second doctor to cover mistakes of mine.I need to say that I think that for me at least i take my medicne right at first but I take MS 60s tid(3 times per day) and Oxy 15s Quid(four times per day) and Valium 10s qid.    However the Valium  when taken  at the same time as the Morphine and the  Oxycodone some how mixes me up,and i take more of each one of my persciptions by "mistake' And I do mean mistake!!!  This has hapened a few times and i tell the truth and my doctor knows this and usaly winds up with a trip to the hospital and a stay.I honestly wish this protracted nightmare ceases and wish all honest members the best. We have to tell the doctor when a honest mistake is made and wish that we can corect our past indescretions!!!! RD

good idea

I carry 2 days worth of meds on me at all times..never more.

I should carry the paperwork in my wallet but I haven't put myself in a situation where

needed it.

The reason ur primary care dr

The reason ur primary care dr got mad was because pain meds n suboxone is a deadly combination..all I have to do is go 2 a pain management dr n bring ur pharmacy script records 4 proof that u did in fact get what ur gnna tell him u got n don't even mention the whole suboxone issue..all these pain management drs care about is making $$ thts it..just don't do it again because depending on what state u live in there's a prescription monitoring program tht allows the pharmacist/dr n the DEA what u take when it was filled n the quantity of pills u filled..just make sure u pass ur drug tests n u should b fine..n NEVER trust what any1 tells u especially random ppl in drs offices n def don't trust pain management drs they're cold hearted egotistical vain wannabe know it alls with bad god complexes..just because they have MD after their name doesn't mean that they're automatically a good trustworthy person..just do whatever is gnna b beneficial 2 u..just remember that 99% of the ppl in pain management drs offices r crooked n r faking injuries 2 get narcotic scripts 2 sell them..so if u have 2 bend the truth a little 2 get the meds tht u TRULY need then do it..If 4 some reason the pain dr brings up the suboxone thing just say I had ppl over 2 watch a football game or baseball game n sum of my friends brought ppl I never met before in my life and after the party was over I went to get my pills cuz it was time 4 ur dosage n u noticed that someone took it..tell them that u consulted a nurse at the ER n she recommended that u go 2 a suboxone clinic til its time 2 get ur scripts..u didn't know that what u did was wrong n its never gnna happen again..u just didn't wanna go through the horrible pain without ur meds n u definitely didn't wanna go through withdrawal..tell him that he can check all ur drug screenings n he won't ever find a bad test!!!! If he still gives u shiet about it then tell him 2 f off n go 2 a different pain idiot dr

Lying to your doctors

Twisting the truth is why doctors are more and more reluctant to treat chronic pain.
I disagree with the above posters comments that most of us lie/fake our injuries to get pain meds to sell.
I have never, will never, lie, exaggerate, twist or spin . I have never sold or given my meds to anyone.
My injuries are well documented , sustained by multiple surgeries that caused further damage and I have never reported pain levels higher than what they actually are.
Anyone who thinks that lying to your doctor is okay perhaps shouldn't be on pain meds period.
If you indeed need pain medications to function reasonably well in your activities of daily living understands the difference between building an honest, respectful relationship between you and your doctor's and doing shady things to obtain meds.

You're COMPLETELY outta line!!!! Idfk where u go 2 the dr but in NJ the drs r the 1s who r the LIARS..I'm not 1 of those people who kiss their butts and treat them like they're the next closest thing 2 God!!!! I broke my neck and had a burst fracture from C5-C7..I was paralyzed from the neck down prior to surgery and by the grace of God and His MIRACULOUS ways I came outta the 12hr spinal fusion surgery unparalyzed!!!! I also hadda fractured lower mandible and severe lacerations 2 my head and mouth..If there's any1 whose injuries warrant strong pain meds it's me!!!! But with the horrible epidemic here everything got fn screwed up and now people like me who TRULY actually NEED their meds adjusted the greedy PM drs don't do it they only give the rotten fn fakers whatever they want!!!! I was in a 2nd accident in 2011 and it intensified EVERYTHING in my back like my lumbar, thoracic, cervical, sciatica and spinal pain muscular damage and nerve damage, even worse SEVERE PTSD..spinal and foraminal stenosis foraminal narrowing bulging and herniated discs acute chronic osteoarthritis just to name half of what's wrong with me!!!! I sit in the waiting room and watch these dope addicts come in limping with a cane and/or crutches even wheelchairs and the second they get their hands on their scripts they literally sprint outta the office!!!! I've even heard people there waiting to be seen on the phone asking how much the people want and how much it's gonna be and how long til they get to the pharmacy!!!! I hear them talking to each other what they get and they get triple what I get and they're getting it for post labor back pain even though they had their kids 8yrs ago!!!! When I tell that fool of a dr that I need my meds adjusted and he lies and tells me that he doesn't prescribe the strength I just heard everyone in the office waiting room say they ALL r prescribed and they even showed me their scripts so I know for a fact they weren't lying..so its ok for him to lie to people because he's got MD after his name and I don't even lie to him I just beg him to give me the strengths I used to get!!!! Ur right about 1 thing its those junkies who mess up EVERYTHING for the people like me who r SEVERELY injured that make the drs suspicious that ends up preventing them from giving me what I rightfully should be getting!!!!!!!!!!

Keep your posts clean....don't point fingers or give advice about lying to Dr's.   You don't tell long term member's  what the deal is.  Got it?
