Shortage

watgives,

Unfortunately, until Novartis and Endo get the production going again in the Nebraska plant, there are going to be shortages. Hopefully it won't be too long.

This is a country wide shortage. There may be some pharmacies around that have had a supply of the medicine, and as such, still have some. But, they are isolated and scattered around the country. And even they will run out shortly.

You are just going to have to work with your physician to find a medication that will hold you till your usual medicine is available.

Good luck.

Endo is currently shipping

Endo is currently shipping new designed 10 mg ER Opana, and old formula 20 mg ER, 30 mg ER and 40 mg ER.  It will most likely take a while for all the distrubution centers to get caught up however.

After speaking with Endo customer service, they say there is no expected date yet when the 10 mg Opana IR will become available once again.

Opana shortage

The shortage is torturing my mother she can only get enough to last her one week at a time. My question is since Opana (oxymorphone) turns in to OxyContin (oxycodone) in the body, has anyone had any luck switching to OxyContin (for the time be). If so what is the equivalency in mgs.?

What???

Hiya Nero

Could I ask where you got that info about Opana morphing into Oxycontin in the body? These are two very different drugs with a different natural or opiate base as a blueprint. Opana is based on Morphine while OxyContin is based upon codeine. Right from the very beginning they are different let alone the fact that their delivery systems aren't alike and the methods for each one's synthesis into opioids varies as well.

As far as equivalency in analgesic strength goes, that's a different story. I am not a dr. or pharmacist and I would strongly advise you to consult one or the other on this question. I can give you the basic figures though; they are 1:2 with one part Opana equalling 2 parts Oxycontin. Please don't go giving your mom a couple of Contins based on this info, at least consult with your pharm first . . . Cuedot

Opana shortage

I,ve been prescribed Opana ir 10mg for a couple of years. It was getting to the point oxycodone i was on was no longer working. One opana 10mg is equal to 1 and a half 30mg oxycodone. I have been getting the oxymorphone generic for two months manufactured by Roxane and they dont compare to the Endo pink  613 or pink endo generic. Endo is one of the finest drug makers especially when it comes to class 2 narcotics. Also my doctor told me the opposite that oxycodone metabolizes into oxymorphone in your sytem. I hope they are not changing the drug because it was working better than anything i have had over the last ten years.

Opana shortage

Opana ir 10 are 1.5 times the strength of morphine sulfate. If you are gonna swith be prepared to detox cause thats what it feels like switching from opana to MSContin. Good luck already did that switched right back to Opanas er 40mg and also pm doc gave me opana ir 10mgs for breakthru

If you were only given 1.5

If you were only given 1.5 times as much morphine as you were prescribed Opana, no wonder you detoxed.  That is an incorrect conversion - Opana is much more potent than 1.5 times morphine.  The conversion software programs on the net list the conversion rate of Opana as 3 times morphine, but in my experience that is a bit too low as well.
