Hi all,

I went from Nucynta to Viicodin to Morphine. I have been on Morphine, 60mg ER twice a day for 3 weeks now and it is ???$*. I wish my doc would put me back on Vicodin or Nucynta.

On Morphine, I have been constipated for over 3 weeks, always feel nauteous and feel so drowsy, I am falling a sleep during the day.

What should I do? :(

Talk to your DR.

Your dr is the one to change the script....why did you switch to morphine ?  FTD patches work halfway decent for me.

Morphine sulfate

To whoom it may concern:I think that Morphine is one of the best pain medications ever.Reason is that in todays world there is so many variations of all kinds of combonations of just about everything from medicne to candy bars to cars. You can pick and coose anything and there will always be a slightly different brand or slightly altered form. The reason i really like Morphine is simple. It has been around over 150 years and it is still the "GOLD STANDARD" which by all else is compared to.I believe that is that so many people want "something new and improved"and there is nothing wrong with that! But pound for pound i have tried and been RXed about all else in an effert to satisfy my former doctors and or others in a effort to quell my severe back pain(s).I have had degenrative lumbar dicks and Lumbar facet athropathy all my life, and several more conditions brought on both by time and a major "tramua"in 2002 where by I was left with a permant limp and non stop pain.I have tried all kinds of medications such as Fentanyl to Oxycontin and all in between. Now for some people who do not like Morphine I so totaly support they and thier choices! But for me MS Contin E.R.  60mg(tid) 3 times a day withg just Oxycodone 15mg (qid) 4 times per day and also Valium (qid)4 times per day is the lowest i can take and still walk with a cane and get around some.I am healthy and 50 something years of age with good liver, kidney  and heart.(just got all tested)and i must say that of course i can /could take much more and not complain, but that seems to be eneough thanks to the Morphine.I know what to expect with Morphine and as far as pain killing,it stands moutians above all the rest both in pain reduction and duration. For breakthrough i have my Oxycodone and Valium to keep my both mussle spasams as well as nerves in check and i am sure those three will be able to supress most all that the world has to throw at me.If my organs were not in great shape and i was shrinking as opossed to gaining some badly needed pounds(186)at 5 feet 11 inches I might want to try another comanation, but at least for me it works and that is what counts.Morphine has been around for a while and most everything else is made from it.So take care and know that as long as your pain is mostly gone, that is right, not how much of a "BUZZ' one may get.(not refering to anyone on this site)Take care and Peace,Rocker DanCool

Yes, the comments made about M ER medication is true. Works the best, least side effects. Cost is good.

I was sick of the side

I was sick of the side effects of Nucynta - break through pain, no sex drive, lazy, and limit to amount I could take.

Now I am dealing with the sickness of Morphine! :(  Makes me so sick and nauseous. :(

I may have to tell the doctor that my body can't handle morphine.

Side effects

Rich, I've noticed that in almost all of your 73 some posts you have mentioned side effects to the opiate drugs you have been prescribed, especially Nucynta. Have you ever considered that you are opiate intolerant? I would get this checked out if I was you . . . Q

I have to agree with Quincy

I must concur here and ask that you might want to check into that side effect problem.  That being said, I have been taking MS ER 200 mg for almost three years and before that, I was on the 100 mg.  I find that as a baseline medication, it's fine.  It does nothing to me and keeps me level all day long.  I take 400 mgs in the am and 400 mgs in the pm.  I know that most of you are saying wow that's alot of medication but when you've been taking these opiates for over 30 years, you tend to build up a bit of a tolerance and you need the correct dosage that your body will tolerate on a daily basis and for me, it's 800 mgs of Morphine Sulfate.  I have no qualms about the Morphine Sulfate.  It works on my pain .

Morphine dose

Richrob10,

Is it at all possible that a slightly lower dose.....perhaps 45mg or so would relieve these symptoms and yet still provide pain relief?  Of course narcotics are famous for constipation and with that comes nausea.  Are you drinking plenty of water?  Don't laugh, but what about good old fashioned prunes or prune juice?  All natural, very effective and good for you!

Thanks for the comments. We

Thanks for the comments. We have tried a lower dose of MS and the pain relief was ok but no nausea at lower levels. However....even though I consume lots of water, fiber and exercise, the constipation is bad and I hate living on supplements to help even though slightly. Now I am back on lower dose of nucynta which controls pain but still has some of the memory issues and spacyness. No constipation. I did however have many of the same side effects with morphine. I think whatever I end up taking I am going to try and only take as needed and find some way to cope because all of these things control your life. I hate having to take any of these all the time! I wish there was a pain killer with no side effects. My doctor did say that just about all his patients taking morphine, having serious constipation.
