PALFIUM (dextromoramide tartrate)
I have been accustomed to acquiring this wonderful, v fast acting, 3 - 4 hours duration, extremely potent opioid analgesic from Netherlands using my EHIC so that cost is very low indeed. Thanks to the clowns in England who voted to remove the UK from the European Union, (Scots voted 2-1 in favour of remaining) I don't know whether I will even be entitled to receive medical care there any longer, and certainly will have to pay the very high full price for this wonderful drug, which I think of as the best possible rescue med for the gap when my Oxycontin ceases working, after average 6.5 hours, certainly NOT the 12 stated on the box).
There is only now one possible solution and that is to invoke my Irish grandmother and get an Irish (EU) passport. Until, that is, the Scottish Parliament votes to hold a second referendum on secession from the UK. That is on the cards. Never have I met so many people who regret a vote in my life, only now there are thousands upon thousands more who realise what a mistake it was to vote to remain in that poisonous Union, where we are governed by a Party which is a 'lunatic fringe' party in Scotland, with no relevance at all. They showed their feelings at the last UK election when all but 3 seats in Scotland out of nearly 70 went to the Scottish National Party!
The outcome of this latest vote has now lost us the right to be treated anywhere in Europe just as at home, but in counteies which habe far better choice and higher quality medicines. UK-made generics (hardly any brand name meds are left due to polocy of dispensing only the cheapest generic - I have to obtainnRochebRivoteil from Germany or Romania because thenUK clonazepam has bioavailability issues which mean I need a good 2mg more daily than with the original, which was withdrawn because of lack of sales. Thank God LONGTEC, the Qderm generic OxyContin are actually branded OC, made in the same factory by the same xompany on the same line and with same imprint; actual Bard/Napp OC simply in a different blister and box! If I had been given Oxylan or Actavis Reltebon, I would have been in trouble, those both feeling half strength, but Longtec are the real thing.
My rescue meds remain at severe risk though and I will NOT be able to afford my customary 540 x 5mg tabs should I be left without the superb EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).
